Supercharged Race: Audi R8 V10 vs. Mercedes-AMG R63

A recent YouTube video shows a drag race between two highly unlikely rivals: the range-topping Audi R8 V10 coupe goes up the exotic Mercedes-AMG R63 (W251) minivan. A supercharged powertrain is the only thing the two have in common.

Back when it came out a decade and a half ago, the R 63 AMG shipped with an eight-cylinder engine capable of 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque. This enabled it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds and therefore be officially recognized as Mercedes’ fastest MPV on the lineup. Controversial body styling and excessively high weight (2.5 metric tons / 5,500 lbs) were the main critiques. The example featured in the video had its engine supercharged to 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) at the crank to help it cope with the bulk.

For its part, however, the Audi R8 V10 received an even more spectacular upgrade to 750 PS (740 hp / 552 kW). Considered in relation to its curb weight of 1,680 kg (3,700 lbs), the power alone makes it the favorite of the race by a wide margin.
