Hyundai 45 Concept debuts with quasi-classical looks

Hyundai may not have much of a history as a car manufacturer, but, like most of its peers nowadays, it tries to draw inspiration from its past successes. The Hyundai 45 Concept, which just debuted at the IAA 2019, is a good illustration of the design direction the company wants to take up next.

The unique vehicle is loosely based on the Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept and allegedly also sports certain features of fighter jets from the 1920s.

The on-board tech is quite interesting, For instance, there are LED-based headlights that can project images to notify the driver about various useful stats (such as the current battery level). For another, there are self-cleaning video cameras substituting the conventional side mirrors.

The cabin, the company claims, has a cozy ‘living room’ feeling to it. There are rotating chaise-longue seats, and the trim makes use of fabric, leather and natural wood. An enormous infotainment display with touch sensitivity provides access to all the main functions.

The company stays silent about the tech specs, only mentioning that the car is fully electric.

The Hyundai 45 Concept will never make it into production, but may eventually provide the basis for the South Korean carmaker’s new design philosophy. Whether this happens or not depends on whether the customers and the media like it enough.
