Sol E10X affordable EV launched in China

The JAC-Volkswagen joint venture has begun taking pre-orders for the compact-sized electric hatchback named Sol E10X, one of the most affordable EVs on the market.

The newcomer shares the underpinnings with the JAC iEV6E and comes equipped with McPherson struts (front) and a semi-dependent axle (rear). It is mere 3,650 mm long, 1,670 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall with a wheelbase spanning 2,390 mm.

Buyers can choose between two electric motors rated at 41 PS (40 hp / 30 kW) and 61 PS (60 hp / 45 kW). The max torque amounts to 95 Nm (70 lb-ft) and 150 Nm (110 lb-ft), respectively. Both are capped at 102 km/h (63 miles per hour) and drive the front axle. A 15-kWh traction battery is provided for 150 km (93 miles) of NEDC-rated range, although you could opt for the more expensive 19.7- and 30.2-kWh variants. The charger port lies concealed in the front left fender.

There are seven trim levels to choose from. The simplest one includes an AC, a single airbag, ABS, Isofix, power windows, and power mirrors. Higher trim levels add a second airbag, ESP, imitation leather, keyless entry and launch, cruise control, an infotainment system with voice command support and OTA updates, a wirless charger, USD slots, and more. The cabin can accommodate either four or five passengers.

Prices range from 39,900 to 78,900 Chinese Yuan. The main competitors of the model include Wuling MiniEV (28,800 – 38,800 CNY) and Baojun E300 (64,800 – 84,800 CNY).
