Nissan Xterra eyeing a U.S comeback

Ponz Pandikuthira, Senior VP and CPO of Nissan Americas, believes that the Xterra off-roader is ready to return to the U.S. market.

The body-on-frame SUV debuted in the USA in 1999 and had stayed in production until 2015. Nissan’s Marketing Chief Vinay Shahani has recently expressed the same sentiments as Pandikuthira, agreeing that it would be nice to see the Xterra back on track.

Right now, Nissan is offering a technically related off-roader called “Terra” in Asian markets, but it’s seven years old and not really viable for the U.S. market barring a large-scale redesign.
