Bugatti sets sights on another world record

Just a week ago, the Bugatti Mistral Spider made its way into the Guinness Book as the world’s fastest open production car with a speed of 453.91 km/h (282 mph).

Now, Bugatti-Rimac CEO Mate Rimac said that he wasn’t ready to throw in the towel. He let it slip that Bugatti engineers are actively researching the possibility to make the Mistral run as fast as 500 kilometers (310 miles) per hour.

Tire integrity remains by far the biggest concern at these accelerations, as the lateral loads affecting the car begin to spin out of control. However, according to Rimac, Bugatti has been consulting Michelin for the available options and expects a new speed record to become a reality sooner or later.
