Porsche turns attention back to ICE cars

The German sports car maker is no longer satisfied with its EV strategy and is looking for ways to diversify its offerings heading into the future.

After Porsche Taycan EV sales fell by a whopping 50% in Q3, Porsche executives realized it was time to take action, admits CTO Lutz Meschke in his latest interview. According to him, the company is now actively researching its options trying to make room in the future lineup for hybrid and even completely gas-powered cars.

This is proving to be challenging, Meschke says. Many of these planned cars had been conceptualized strictly as EVs and even designed based on the company’s PPE architecture (Premium Platform Electric). This platform doesn’t support traditional engines at all, meaning there is going to be plenty of redesigning and extra spending if the company wants back on track with ICE car production.
