“Space Patrol” Cybertruck impersonator sells for $4.5k

An avid car enthusiast from Utah built a less-than-serious custom car with vague Tesla Cybertruck vibes for a valiant cause: supporting the families of deceased police officers. It has now fetched $4,550 at a charity auction – not much, but understandable given the condition of the chassis.

The tuner started with a 21-year-old Toyota Prius Mk2. It already had more than 337,000 km (210,000 miles) on the odometer prior to the conversion. He removed both bumpers, the hood and some other body parts to install a stainless-steel tube frame onto the chassis. He then stickied custom aluminum body panels on top of it using little besides double-sided tape and rivets.

Headlights and taillights were replaced with slim LED strips, and in the end, only the side mirrors and the glass dome stayed untouched. That is, with the exception of the rear quarter panel windows – they were “reinforced” with metal bars.

Once done with the main part, the tuner added lots of extra lights all around, including some flashing beacons on the roof, a rather amateurish-looking bull bar at the front end and fake gun turrets at all four corners. To maximize the goofiness, he slapped on stickers reading “Space Patrol”, “Destroy All Threats” and “Not a Real Cop”.

The interior stayed stock Prius, that is, except for grotesque alien masks put on the headrests. According to the listing, the work took four months to complete.
