Zacoe redefines modern BMW M2 with a styling upgrade

A BMW M1 from the total production batch of 400 units or so will cross the auction block next Friday, March 1. Thanks to its low mileage and reportedly unique livery, it’s being estimated between U.S. $750,000 and $950,000.
The M1 was one the Bavarian company’s most renowned sports cars of all time and also the first project of its M division. Its early development was assisted by Lamborghini and Italian designer Gianpaolo Dallara, while the late development was handled by experts formerly employed at Sant’Agata Bolognese.
Roughly 450 vehicles have rolled off the assembly lines in total, but only 399 were reportedly made street-legal. The remaining 51 or so were initially used by BMW in its single-make racing championship. Later on, they were retrofitted for endurance racing. Out of the road-going bunch, only three cars were finished in silver at the factory, and only one – the one seen right here – was sprayed in Polaris Silver.
The car on sale was made in 1981 and shipped to a customer in France. A few years ago, it was exported to Japan, where it had spent two decades before coming back to Europe – Belgium, to be specific. The seller claims the entire background of the car is meticulously detailed in the documents. The mileage is a touch over 17,000 km (10,500 miles). The car even comes with a BMW Classic certificate of authenticity.
