According to Cadillac CEO Mark Reuss, the Chevrolet Corvette won’t provide a sufficiently unique basis for the company’s own supercar.
Rumors that such a car was in development at Cadillac have been circulating for months. Reuss didn’t directly debunk them, but said that taking the C8 Corvette as the starting point would run afoul of the marque’s premium positioning. If the company does decide to release a supercar, it will have to be its own thing, rather than based on the affordable Corvette tech.
He didn’t elaborate how this logic applied to the luxurious Cadillac Escalade, which runs on the Chevrolet Tahoe platform.
Back in 2003–2009, Cadillac produced a roadster called the XLR on Corvette underpinnings. You can find it in the gallery and the video here. Well, it looks like the company no longer wants a rebadged Chevy for a flagship.
