Chevrolet Corvette production halts again
General Motors has once again stopped the production of the Chevrolet C8 Corvette, arguing that it needs to retrofit the assembly lines and train the workers before it can produce the latest trims.
The assembly lines stayed idle for a week this February. They will remain idle for two more weeks in March and will be stopped for another week in May, the company says.
For their own part, anonymous insiders believe that Chevrolet pursues other goals with these measures. With the new Corvette stock piling up at dealerships and warehouses, it may simply want to control its inventory. Aside from that, the company may be incentivizing more workers to retire – it’s easier to do than direct staff cuts and makes sense in the troubled market of today.
