Ford may bring the Fiesta ST back to Europe, but only as an EV

According to Christian Weingärtner, General Manager of Passenger Vehicles at Ford Europe, the company is interested in reinstating the Fiesta ST hot hatch on the European market, so long as it doesn’t get an internal combustion engine.

Taking to Auto Express UK, Weingärtner opined that the EV could be ready for launch as soon as 2028. It’s being envisioned on the same RGEV Small platform as the Renault 5 E-Tech and the Alpine A290. Among other things, multilink rear suspension is going to be standard in order for the car to stay agile on the road.

No powertrain specifics were mentioned. The gas-powered Fiesta ST squeezed 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW) out of its 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder engine and needed 6.5 seconds to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph). It dropped out of production three years ago, raising obvious questions from those who didn’t care to see it go – watch the video above if you need a reminder.
