Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 bows in China

Automaker Geely has held a conference titled “AI Intelligent Technology” in China earlier this week. One of its highlights was the premiere of a new sedan called the Galaxy Starshine 8.

The car is sized 5,018 x 1,918 x 1,480 mm (196 x 75 x 57.8 inches) large with 2,928 mm (114.4 inches) between the axles. Depending on your chosen trim, it can weigh either 1,908 or 1,950 kilos (4,206 or 4,299 lbs).

Funnily enough, Geely claims the car ships with a “Level 2.9 autonomous driving system”. That sounds like it falls just a tad short of the internationally recognized Level 3, which lets the driver take hands off the wheel for brief moments as long as the road ahead is clear. Anyway, the car seems to have a roof-mounted LiDAR unit.

A turbocharged engine delivers 161 PS (160 hp / 120 kW) to the wheels, and an electric motor supplies another 215 PS (212 hp / 158 kW). The hybrid powertrain takes the sedan from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds and can ultimately get it to 200 km/h (124 mph).

In its most basic form, the Galaxy Starshine 8 ships with an 18.4-kWh LFP battery manufactured by CATL. Geely claims up to 104 km (64.6 miles) of CLTC all-electric range for it. A more expensive trim makes use of a bigger 27.7 kWh battery pack, which lets it go on for 161 km (100 miles) without firing up the engine.
