Geely Galaxy M9 presents specs

The full-size plug-in hybrid SUV known as the Geely Galaxy M9 debuted in Italy a month ago, but is only now making a loop back to the domestic market of China. Geely has yet to introduce it formally, so let's look at the patent data in the meantime.

Like the recent Galaxy Starshine 8 sedan, the SUV rides on a new architecture called the GEA Evo (otherwise known as the CMA 3.0). It employs a smart powertrain called the Leishen AI Hybrid 2.0 EM-P that, per the company, uses “artificial intelligence” to monitor the current driving conditions and adjust the output accordingly. The main power is provided by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine rated at 163 PS (161 hp / 120 kW).

Customers will be choosing from two LFP battery packs made by CATL. The entry-level pack stores 18.4 kWh and can deliver up to 85 km (52 miles) in all-electric mode. Opting for a bigger battery gets you 41.46 kWh and 170–185 km (105–115 miles) of electric range depending on other options. Even with the battery discharged, the Galaxy M9 averages at 4.8 liters of gas spent per 100 kilometers, or 49 miles per U.S. gallon. Once in hybrid mode, it can cover 1,500 km (932 miles) on a full tank. It takes 4.5 seconds for it to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph).

The M9 is a fairly large SUV at 5,205 x 1,999 x 1,800 mm with 3,030 mm between the axles. Its approach angle amounts to a modest 19 degrees, and the departure angle is even less impressive at 17 degrees. Still, it’s a crossover we are talking about and not a full-fledged off-roader.

Wheels come in 20- and 21-inch sizes. Once fueled, the car can weigh from 2,180 to 2,530 kg (4,806–5,577 lbs) depending on the configuration.

The interior houses six seats, a modest-sized digital dashboard complemented by a heads-up display, and a giant multimedia display most of which is on the passenger side. Among other things, the company plans to offer a self-driving system called G-Pilot H5. Composed of a LiDAR, three radars and 11 cameras, it can find its way around without highly detailed maps, Geely says.
