Car Tuning
German tuning house Brabus has given us plenty of memorable car conversions over the years, but this Mercedes E-Class sedan turned into a unique track tool named the 3.6S Lightweight outshines most.
Back in 1988, the company unveiled a completely stripped-down version of the Mercedes-Benz 190E with only two seats in the cabin and little besides. It was not welcomed with too much enthusiasm, so Brabus was soon forced to make a few corrections to the project, bringing back the rear seat row and the air conditioner, among other things.
Rewind forward 20 years, and the company’s PR manager Sven Gramm unearthed the original project and ordered one 3.6S Lightweight for himself – no frills, just like it had been initially conceived. This exact car can now be yours for just below £100,000.
Aside from tits Spartan charms, the Lightweight boasts improved cooling in its engine, transmission and differential departments, a sports-grade exhaust system, and modded manifolds. A 3.6-liter naturally aspirated inline-six under the hood churns out 290 PS (286 hp / 213 kW) and 365 Nm (269 lb-ft) of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.3 seconds. Top speed lies at 254 km/h (158 mph).
The one-off ride has 10,439 km (6,487 miles) showing on the odometer.
