Track-only Mercedes 190E Evo II replica debuts ahead of the ‘Ring marathon

HWA Automotive has finally taken the wraps off its EVO.R race car that landed on the track around a month ago (see video). It’s a restomod inspired by, but not really based on, the iconic Mercedes 190E Evo II, and it will compete at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring as soon as this weekend.

Like its street-legal counterpart, the HWA EVO, the R version features a monocoque chassis draped over with carbon-fiber panels and aero kit. The suspension and steering are also fully modern. According to the tuning company, its goal was to make the handling as simple and predictable as possible for drivers “of all experience levels.”

Powering the EVO R is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 dialed up to 560 PS (552 hp / 412 kW) and 670 Nm (494 lb-ft) of torque. That’s considerably more power and torque than its street-legal counterpart. The transmission is six-speed sequential.

As befits any dedicated racer, the 190E replica features a rather stripped-down cabin housing little besides racing steering wheel, some dedicated switchgear, a carbon-backed seat and an FIA-certified roll cage. Those who would like a little extra may still request a 24-hour lighting package for endurance racing, a water fountain for the same purpose, and an air conditioner.

Only 15 such sedans will be made. The pricing is private, but the road-going HWA EVO starts from €714,000, so you could extrapolate from there.
