Mercedes-AMG GT XX previews what’s to come

The AMG GT XX is a “four-door coupe” concept envisioned as a high-power breakthrough EV for the future.

Powered by a trio of motors designed by Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Yasa, the supercar outputs more than 1,360 PS (1,341 hp / 1,000 kW), accelerating to 360 km/h (223 mph) and beyond. An innovative battery pack composed from nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum cells supports 850 kW charging current and needs only five minutes to get back 402 km (250 miles) of range. The company points out that every cell features a high energy density of 300 Wh/kg, and there are more than 3,000 such cells in the pack.

Riding on the AMG.EA chassis, the AMG GT XX features a low-drag body largely made of aluminum, composites and steel. Ditching the rear window and adding air vents enabled the engineers to target a record-low drag ratio of just 0.198. Perhaps most impressively, the designers found use for turbine fans inside the car’s 21-inch forged wheels. The active fan blades there can rotate to further improve the aerodynamic performance.

Coming in at 5.2 meters (slightly over 17 ft.) long, the GT XX is a long car. It’s therefore surprising that it only has two seats inside. They are made from carbon fiber and mounted straight onto the load-bearing frame, while the seat padding is 3D-printed and replaceable. The upholstery mainly consists of a new grade of eco-leather said to be nearly indistinguishable from natural. It is composed of recycled racing tires, among other things.

There is still no official release schedule. Rumors suggest the final production car may debut in late 2025, but Yasa motors won’t reach mass production until 2026.
