Painstakingly accurate Shelby Cobra replica hits auction

Vintage vehicles like the legendary Shelby Cobra make the car enthusiasts’ hearts beat faster, but they are often a handful to control and cost a fortune, to boot. The Superformance MKIII seen here is a viable alternative that bundles modern creature comforts with a manageable price.

On the outside, the open two-seater looks almost indistinguishable from the original Cobra – you will have to be an expert to spot the differences. It comes based on a stainless-steel frame and wears lightweight GFRP body panels. The steering, the suspension and the brakes are completely new and way more up-to-date than those of the 1960s-era original.

Power for the replica comes from a 7.0-liter Roush V8 equipped with an aluminum block, forged pistons and crank, and a slew of other high-end components. The output isn’t stated for this particular car, but it usually resides above 500 hp (375 kW).

A separate mention goes to the interior, which is wrapped in gorgeous red leather with black piping and houses bucket seats. A wooden-rimmed steering wheel, analog gauges and a six-CD changer turn the car into a retro work of art on wheels.
