GAC Trumphi S7 patented as an AWD hybrid SUV

At the Guangzhou Motor Show in mid-November, GAS unveiled a new car called the Trumpchi S7. It never provided any technical details, but AutoHome.cn managed to find its certification documents along with some specs.

The S7 is a crossover utility vehicle. It is 4.9 meters (191.4 inches) long, 1.95 m (76.2 in) wide and 1.78 m (69.5 in) tall. The wheelbase spans 2.88 m (112.5 in), and the ground clearance amounts to 200 mm (7.8 in). The patent application only mentions 19-inch wheels, but other options may become available later.

During the initial reveal at the show, GAC said the most eye-catching feature of the car would be a LED bar at the front end. It consists of 2,248 individual lights that can be animated in eight different ways. Compared to other cars from the Trumpchi lineup, the S7 looks rather understated, and the company says it will prefer this design language going forward.

The patent says the SUV is a three-motor hybrid. There are two electric motors installed one per axle and a 1.5-liter petrol engine rated at 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) acting as a range extender. The actual horsepower going to the wheels is still unknown, but the automaker expects the S7 to max out at 185 km/h (115 mph). From what we know about range-extender hybrids, it should also offer well over 1,000 km (621 miles) of range.
