Old GMC SUV nearly hits $250k

Someone has just paid U.S. $226,000 for this 1993 GMC Typhoon at an online auction. As wild as the price may look, it’s far from random.

For starters, with only two years of production and no more than 4,700 units made according to reports, the Typhoon is considered a rare model. It was fairly sporty for its era, too, pushing out 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW) from a 4.3-liter turbocharged V6. Going from zero to 96.6 km/h (60 mph) was a matter of 5.3 seconds for it when new.

The listing emphasizes that this particular Typhoon is one out of only 77 examples finished in all red, body and kit. It’s also one of the lesser used ones with barely over 2,700 km (1,677 miles) on the odometer.
