Stellantis to stop two factories in Italy

Stellantis car manufacturing plants in Termoli and Cassino, Italy will be idling for several weeks – but it’s not because of low demand this time around, the company will have you know.

According to Stellantis, the issue is in the investment agreement that the government of the country has yet to sign. In turn, Italian authorities claim that the automaker must first present them with a convincing and sustainable development strategy in the region. Should a satisfactory product plan not be issued until December 16th, the agreement may fall through.

Complicating the situation is the fact that Stellantis insists on making its Italian automotive branch profitable at any cost, which implies staff cuts, among other things. Just how it is supposed to invest in the country while downsizing its existing business there is anyone’s guess.
