SsangYong successor spruces up Torres & Actyon

KGM, the automaker that inherited the rights to the SsangYong brand in South Korea, has facelifted its Torres crossover along with its close relative, the Actyon. Both ended up with interior and powertrain improvements.

The Torres was the only one to get an actual exterior update, though. It wound up with a subtly redesigned radiator grille, anti-fog lights no longer integrated with the front bumper, and new 20-inch wheels. The rear bumper has also been slightly reshaped, and that’s about all.

Interior is where things get more interesting for both models. There’s a new steering wheel, a reworked digital dashboard and a more up-to-date infotainment system, just to name a few highlights. The gear selector stays on the center console, but the console itself is larger and looks more ergonomic than the previous version. As a side bonus, it now houses two wireless chargers instead of just one and a full-fledged HVAC control panel.

Both SUVs can be purchased in Korea with an improved variant of their standard 1.5-liter turbo engine under the hood. While still rated at 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW), it now outputs 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque instead of 280 Nm (207 lb-ft). The transmission is also now eight-speed automatic instead of six-speed. SsangYong hasn’t disclosed any 0-100 km/h sprint times yet.

As usual, AWD is obtainable at a premium, and it now has a dedicated mode for driving on sand.
