Tri-fuel, tri-drive Dacia Striker promises wonders of tech from €25k onward

Following up on the announcement made in early spring, Dacia has confirmed that its new SUV-like wagon Striker will start just under €25,000 in Europe.

It’s also official now that the vehicle will be able to utilize three different power sources – two of them at once – and let drivers freely switch between front, rear and both driven axles. The cheapest version will go on sale as a mild hybrid powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine and a 48-volt starter-generator. It will use a six-speed transmission (manual or auto) to send up to 140 PS (138 hp / 104 kW) to the front wheels.

Aside from the petrol tank, the car comes equipped with a natural gas tank installed in the trunk area. Drivers will be able to choose the fuel type manually or even let the car decide which one is optimal at the moment.

Paying the premium for the mid-range spec gets you a 1.8-liter four-pot rated at 109 PS (107 hp / 80 kW), a starter-generator and a full-fledged e-motor with 49 PS (48 hp / 36 kW) of its own. The combined output of this version doesn’t exceed 155 PS (153 hp / 114 kW).

Last but not least, the range-topping Striker Hybrid 150 4x4 combines a 140-PS (138-hp / 104-kW) engine with a 31-PS (31-hp / 23-kW) e-motor at the rear axle. This one lets you choose the drive type from three available options: petrol or gas (FWD), all-electric (RWD), or hybrid (AWD). Dacia admits that the e-motor is a bit lacking in thrust to enable highway cruising, so you’ll need at least one of the tanks filled before making any long trips.

The launch date of the Dacia Striker remains to be announced.
