Alfaholics GTA-R 290 restomod leaves Chris Harris impressed

Alfaholics is a tuning company name that Alfa Romeo fans cherish as much as Porsche fans do Singer Vehicle Design. Both specialize in building top-notch restomods, and the GTA-R 290 you see here is the Italian team’s latest effort.

The donor car is an Alfa Romeo GTA, a classical sports coupe that came out between late 1960s and early 1970s. The restored version uses a 2.3-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine rated at around 240 hp (180 kW). This may not sound like much, but the low curb weight of just 830 kilograms (1,829 lbs) gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 290 horsepower per metric ton – that’s what the number in its name actually means.

A purpose-designed manual transmission sends the momentum to the rear wheels. There are no fancy driver aids or safety measures on board that could prevent you from having fun on your own terms.

The hood cover, trunk lid and doors are made of carbon fiber, most of the bodywork and kit from aluminum, and wishbones from titanium.

Top Gear host Chris Harris has recently had a chance to drive the $250,000 restomod and was very impressed with it – watch the video for full coverage.
