Tuner rebuilds a wrecked BMW M3 good as new

An enthusiast from Germany, known as s55__M2 on social media, purchased a badly crashed BMW M3 Competition (G80) and set about restoring it to peak condition. How does one even accomplish something as extreme as that? Let’s find out.

According to the tuner, he had to contact BMW and haggle for an all-new G80 M3 chassis. As unlikely as it may sound, he was successful. From there onwards, the build was mostly about salvaging the parts that were still usable and sourcing the destroyed parts from the aftermarket. The donor M3 had its chassis destroyed in a side-on collision, but miraculously retained the engine and the transmission – arguably the priciest parts in any modern BMW.

Okay, just how difficult is it to build a car from the ground up in your garage? The tuner claims his project is the most ambitious of its kind in all of Germany, and yet viable enough to try.

As we understand it based on the recent posts, s55__M2 has a virtually complete BMW M3 in his garage now that looks like new despite being built by one person in their free time. Someone in the comments ventured a guess that the whole ordeal cost around $20,000, to which the builder replied: “Almost.” That’s highly impressive if true, what with the regular M3 Comp RWD starting from around $85,000 in the United States and the xDrive version available from $90,000.
