BYD Seal takes youth pills in China

Images and specs of the refreshed BYD Seal had leaked online long before the official premiere, but we now have the prices and all the details. Customers in China are choosing from four Seal modifications priced from 175,800 to 239,800 Yuan.

The car stays 4.8 meters (187.5 inches) long with 2,920 mm (114 inches) of wheelbase. It even looks almost unchanged from the old version, so you’ll have to look inside to see the novelty. More importantly, it rides on a vastly upgraded platform called the e-Platform 3.0 Evo. Unlike the regular e-Platform 3.0 before it, the Evo benefits from a much better integrated electric powertrain, Disus-C active adaptive suspension and 800-volt power architecture (up from 400 volts). This drops the 10–80% charging time to just 25 minutes.

Among other things, the 2025 BYD Seal takes advantage of a LiDAR in two top trims. It is an essential part of the company’s Level 2+ self-driving system known as the DiPilot 300.

If you don’t need the fancy electronics, the base car still gives you 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW) of electric power at the rear end and 61.44 kilowatt-hours of battery capacity. The CLTC range is estimated at 510 km, which translates into 317 miles.

There are also two middle-ground specs powered by a single e-motor with 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW). Both come with an 80.64-kWh battery pack and yield up to 650 km (404 miles) of range per charge. The principal difference is that one of these has the LiDAR installed and the other one ships without it.

Finally, there is a range-topping dual-motor spec. It commands 530 PS (523 hp / 390 kW) and can cover 600 km (373 miles) on a charge, per the manufacturer.
