1991 Citroen Dakar racer goes on sale

Auction holders expect to get between €475,000 and €525,000 for this Citroen ZX Rallye Raid.

The car is a mid-engine buggy built on a space-frame chassis with per-wheel suspension and a four-cylinder engine tuned to 330-330 horsepower (adjustable). Its chassis number C05 suggests it participated in numerous rally raid events of 1991, 1992 and 1993.

Once its racing career was over, Citroen accepted the car into its official museum collection. A private collector bought it out of there in 2011 and proceeded to restore its drivetrain to peak condition. While at it, the restoration shop also gave it the same livery that it wore to the very first Rallye des Pharaons 35 years ago. Whoever ends up buying this impressive exotic will be getting two Citroen Sport racing overalls made in 1991.
