Kia Tasman improves its off-road chops

Kia has come to this year’s Seoul Mobility Show with an improved version of its Tasman pickup: the Weekender.

The odd-looking truck received body-matched fenders instead of black, a new front bumper with a built-in winch and towing eyes, and an improved hood cover with anti-slip standing pads for roof access.

Aside from these wilderness-friendly tweaks, the Tasman received a full-fledged roll cage seamlessly integrated into the bodywork so as not to stand out. The same roll cage supports the weight of a heavy-duty expedition rack on the roof and an organizer box in the bed.

Kia also pointed out new wheels shod in 35-inch mud tires. It neglected to mention any suspension mods, but the Weekender seems to ride taller than the stock truck.

According to Karim Habib, Kia’s Design VP, the how car is still technically a concept. Whether it will be mass-produced or not will be decided based on the amount of feedback the company receives from its customers across all major markets, particularly South Korea and Australia. He didn’t mention any powertrain upgrades, so it looks like there are none.
