Hongqi unveils the EH7, its next large electric sedan

Chinese premium vehicle brand Hongqi has shared some images of its upcoming full-size battery saloon, the EH7. It pioneers the marque’s new design language and should arrive in the showrooms in China later this year, Autohome reports.

The car is based on the Hongqi E001 Concept from last year (see video). Work on it has been going on since at least 2022, when the company released a series of 3D renderings of it. In May 2023, a month after the concept car debut in Shanghai, a camouflaged prototype was spotted driven on public roads. In late January this year, a camo-free example was photographed near a dealership in China.

The EH7 sports a solid slab instead of the radiator grille, a new EV-only badge, fang-shaped headlights and taillights, low-drag wheels and a glass roof.

Inside, the dashboard and the multimedia screens are merged into a single trapezoid display with rounded corners. The steering wheel has two spokes, and you can opt for HUD and face recognition, among other things.

From the technical perspective, the early certification documents suggest that the EV runs on a new platform known as the FME. It is 4,980 mm (194.5 inches) long, 1,915 mm (74.8 in) wide and 1,490 mm (58.2 in) tall with 3 meters (117.2 in) of wheelbase.

The most basic version of the EH7 uses a single e-motor on the rear axle with 344 PS (339 hp / 253 kW). The top spec adds another motor to drive the front wheels with 275 PS (271 hp / 202 kW). The former rides on 18-inch and the latter on 19-inch wheels.

Hongqi uses proprietary electric motors supplied by its parent company, FAW, and sources batteries from CATL. Buyers of the EH7 sedan will be choosing between two battery sizes – one rated at 600 km (372 miles) and the other one at 800 km (497 miles). The bigger battery will be swappable at certain charging stations.
