Acura counts on EVs to boost sales

The premium automaker saw its sales plunge by 12% in January–July 2024 compared to the same period last year, but says it has a plan to get out of the downward spiral.

As unlikely as it may sound in this day and age, Acura executives believe the company will do well to invest more in electric vehicles. The Acura ZDX (pictured below) is the only one currently in production, and it is based on a chassis sourced from General Motors, but the company hopes to add more EVs to the range soon that it designed on its own.

The first new battery-powered Acura will be based on the Performance EV Concept revealed a while ago. It is set to debut in late 2025. A large seven-seater SUV envisioned as a successor to the gas-powered MDX is expected to join the lineup in 2026.

Last but not least, the premium subdivision of Honda has its sights set on an electric descendant of the NSX lineage. Acura confirmed a month ago that such a car was already in development.
