Reports: Mercedes-Benz to axe GLC & GLE coupes

It has been a few years since Mercedes-Benz decided to trim its bloated product lineup, and the media in Germany have now caught rumors of two more SUVs getting the axe.

According to these unofficial reports, the Stuttgart company considers dropping the GLC Coupe and the GLE Coupe from production. The “coupe-like crossover” fad is on a decline right now, almost seen as a thing of the past, and the company’s main distribution market likes them even less than the rest.

Specifically, only 6% car buyers in China pick a coupe-like SUV as their new car. The worldwide percentage is hardly much better, hovering between 10 and 15 percent. With China earning the most money for Mercedes in the premium vehicle segment, it looks like only a matter of time until the GLC and GLE coupes are gone for good.
