Slate Auto’s first SUV crops up in first photos

Michigan-based EV maker Slate Auto plans to launch three electric cars on the same platform soon, and the first of them – a three-door off-roader – will be introduced tomorrow, April 24. In the meantime, here are the first two images of it.

As part of its promotional campaign, the car rides around wearing a silly livery advertising a veterinary clinic called “The Feline Therapist” (fictional; doesn’t exist). A dedicated website called CatThurrrapy.com runs a premiere countdown timer.

Aside from this SUV, which is implied to be a capable off-roader despite an all-electric powertrain, Slate Auto has plans for a larger, boxier SUV and a single-cab pickup truck. The latter has been spotted on the U.S. roads before.

Slate Auto was founded three years ago and is believed to be sponsored by none other than Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon. It has kept a low profile so far, only saying that its goal was to design a sub-$25,000 EV. It may debut tomorrow, but sales won’t begin until late 2026, or so we are told.
