Meet Suzuki e SKY, the brand’s firstborn Kei EV for Japan

Suzuki has just unveiled its first all-electric Kei car: the e SKY. It doesn’t look any different from any other vehicle in its segment, but runs silently with zero emissions. Once charged, it can cover up to 310 kilometers (192 miles).

The tiny four-seater measures 3,395 x 1,475 x 1,625 mm (133.7 x 58.1 x 64 inches) large with 2,460 mm (96.9 inches) between the axles. It manages to weigh as little as 1,030 kilograms (2,270 lbs) with the battery already in. Customers can choose from yellow, red and blue for the exterior color, the latter changing its hue based on light incidence.

Suzuki hasn’t mentioned the motor output yet, but Kei cars are typically limited to 64 PS (63 hp / 47 kW) due to tax reasons. What we do know is that the e SKY is front-wheel-drive with no option to go AWD, and can turn in a 4.4-meter (14.44-foot) radius.

Interior highlights include a 10.1-inch main display, an advanced low-consumption HVAC system, and a navigation system that plots routes accounting for the remaining charge. Drivers can engage Easy Drive Pedal mode to only use the accelerator, and the battery charge can be shared with external appliances.

All prices are pending. Sales in Japan start this fall.
