Video: Bentley’s firstborn EV boasts its delightfully wooly insides

The British automaker is gearing up for unveiling its first-ever electric vehicle, the Torcal SUV, on September 23, 2026. In the meantime, Bentley released a short video highlighting some of its unique trimming materials.

For the first time on record, a production car makes use of a processed wool from a sheep breed called fine-wool merino. The automaker claims that this material is about as tender and warm as they get, but too easily torn or frayed to enable its use in mass-produced vehicles.

The clear implication in the video is that the company somehow managed to address these issues and make the wool viable, but any details might have to wait until the premiere. It’s also official that this so-called “woolen flannel” is coming in six available finishes to choose from.

Another highlight is a special kind of wood veneer fabricated with recycled kraft paper in the mix. The new technology involved in making this walnut veneer allows it to create smooth, organic transitions between all kinds of wood and metal details.

Stay tuned for the premiere on Sept. 23 for further info.
