Meet Super Bugger Camper, a VW Beetle you can live in

Motorhomes have become increasingly popular during the pandemic, both as a legitimate means of traveling and as a means of isolating yourself from the outer world. Often cited downsides include ‘expensive’ and ‘difficult to park in a garage’, but this 1969 VW Beetle is neither.

Back in the 1970s, a Californian company began advertising its Super Bugger RV kit for the Beetle. In 1977, this particular example was born.

The only detail that still reminds you of the original is the front trunk, and you can still use it as such. The inside space looks like a time capsule from the ‘70s era, including a floor lined with brown and beige shag carpets, walls lined with wood, and windows draped with old-fashioned curtains. Equipment highlights include a gas stove and a mini-sink.

Powering the unlikely motorhome is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Mecum Auctions recently sold it for U.S. $19,800.
