Superformance and Shelby Legendary Cars have unveiled their next big project from their unofficial AC Cobra revival series. Dubbed the Super Snake CSX10000, it is a vintage-style sports car designed to run on a Ford Godzilla crate engine – but you’ll have to get your own example.
Superformance, a company with an extensive portfolio of iconic vehicle replicas (see video), dedicates the Super Snake CSX10000 to the 60 years since the debut of the Cobra 427 Super Snake. That car was developed by the legendary Carrol Shelby for private use; a well-kept example from its creator’s garage fetched $6 million at an auction four years ago.
Made largely of steel-reinforced glass fiber plastic, the whole roadster weighs in at roughly 1.2 metric tons (2,645 lbs). It makes use of A-shaped control arms and coilovers in the suspension, high-end brakes, 18-inch wheels and an ABS. Hydraulic power steering and air conditioning are listed under paid extras.
For the engine, Superformance recommends using the 7.3-liter Ford Godzilla V8, arguing that it feels closest to the engine that powered the original Cobra. This is interesting because the tuner actually suggests using a custom turbocharged variant of the mill instead of naturally aspirated.
Both the block and the drivetrain are sold separately from the car itself, which starts from $120,000 before options. No more than 20 units will be made in total.
