BYD completes its 5th vehicle carrier ship

The Chinese automaker has finished constructing the Changsha, its fifth transporter ship designed to carry its electrified vehicles.

It will float in April, becoming the second extra-large carrier ship in the company’s own fleet. The first one, Shenzhen, has been making shipments for a while now. Like the Shenzhen, the Changsha is 219 meters (718.5 ft.) long and can carry up to 9,200 cars per voyage.

By building its own ships, BYD hopes to expand its international presence and gain a foothold in markets distant from China. The company delivered 433,000 vehicles abroad in 2024, an impressive 71.8% bump over the preceding year.
