Back in 2013, Wisconsin-based tuner D&Z Customs took part in the SEMA show with a rather attention-grabbing project car based on a 1973 Chevrolet Camaro RS. Its flashy exterior and upgraded powertrain warranted it multiple magazine mentions, so don’t expect it to be cheap when it crosses the block at Mecum in late September.
For starters, the tuner devised a unique body kit for the Camaro that included a bols front splitter, a couple of black radiator grilles and a giant, sharply raised tail spoiler. Stock wheels were swapped for a set of Forgeline DE3C rims, and a look behind the spokes reveals custom brakes assembled from Wilwood and DynaPro components. The front suspension was sourced from Heidt, while the shock absorbers all around were borrowed from Ridetech shelf.
A 7.23-liter Wegner V8 slotted in under the hood, sending 690 PS (689 hp / 507 kW) to the rear end while producing up to 773 Nm (570 lb-ft) of torque. The choice of transmission fell on a Tremec T-56 six-speed manual upgraded to a two-disc clutch. D&Z Customs didn’t disclose any sprint times, but said the car was built specifically for drag racing.
Inside, new additions include a robust-looking roll cage, Sparco Evo II bucket seats, a Sparco steering wheel, and Ridetech safety harnesses.
