Barely-driven Ford RS200 up for grabs for $0.2M+

A 35-year-old Ford RS200 with around 5,600 kilometers (3,480 miles) on the odometer has cropped up on sale recently, and the betting has reached U.S. $200,000 with a few days remaining.

Ford introduced its RS200 model to the mass market in order to homologate a Groupe B rally car. 37 years ago, the European division of the company designed a mid-engined, AWD car from scratch and built 200 units, which it sold to anyone interested. A popular rumor holds that only 140 units left the factory, though.

The road-legal RS200 packed a 1.8-liter Cosworth engine dialed down from around 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) to just 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW). It had a five-speed manual transmission and three limited-slip differentials. The body made extensive use of GFRP parts, and the design came from Gia.

This specific example with chassis number 169 was originally bought in 1994; until that year, Ford UK had stored it on its factory. The owner imported the car to Michigan and sold it after 15 years or so of use. Differences from the stock version are reportedly limited to red mudguards and a red driver’s mirror housing. The brakes, the steering and the powertrain underwent maintenance just a year ago.
