New BMW X5: Full price and specifications

BMW has finally shed light on the new, fifth generation of its X5 crossover. The G65 X5 is slated to reach showrooms in Europe in late November this year, bringing along a small host of powertrain options and trim levels. Hydrogen and electric will take time to arrive, but the full list of options is frankly impressive.

Starting with the entry-level 40d xDrive, it will utilize a diesel engine and a mild-hybrid add-on to send 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW) to the wheels. Its nearest alternative, the X5 40 xDrive, will make 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW). Going hybrid with the 50e xDrive will bump the output up to 489 PS (482 hp / 360 kW).

The all-electric iX5 60 xDrive will make use of dual e-motors rated at 578 PS (570 hp / 425 kW) combined. It will also support charging sources as powerful as 460 kilowatts, and will benefit from a huge 141-kWh traction battery. The range figures remain to be confirmed for all markets.

Last but not least, the plug-in-hybrid X5 M60e xDrive spec will combine a 3.0-liter I6 with e-motors for 612 PS (603 hp / 450 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. It will remain at the top of the new X5 lineup for a while. A number of more affordable variants are slated for launch over the next year or so, and a hydrogen-fuel-cell variant is expected to be ready by 2028.

On the outside, most X5 versions measure 4,994 millimeters (196.6 inches) long, 2,000 mm (78.7 inches) wide and 1,748 mm (68.8 inches) tall with 3,035 mm (119.5 inches) between the axles. Compared to its predecessor, it sports an easily recognizable Neue Klasse look and offers a more traditional tailgate instead of the nice two-part rear door design.

Interior highlights include a Panoramic iDrive display spanning the entire width of the windshield, a dedicated touchscreen for the front passenger, and a host of cutting-edge electronic features and systems.

A number of BMW X5 specs are already available for ordering in Germany. In the United States, production won’t start until August and only ICE variants will be available when it does. All-electric and hybrid will join the family in 2027, BMW warns.

On its domestic market, the new X5 starts from €94,800 for the 40d xDrive. The part-electric X5 50e xDrive and the all-electric iX5 60 xDrive both start at €102,800 before options.
