Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock debuts as a purebred dragster

Dodge once again asserts its dedication to producing drag strip tools with its newest coupe called Challenger SRT Super Stock. Dive in for a detailed overview.

In spring 2017, FCA launched Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, a specialized drag racer with a single seat and special tires. Only 3,300 units were produced. Later on, the company brought us the road-legal Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, and now follows up on the latter with the Challenger SRT Super Stock.

As its name implies, the vehicle has been designed specifically for participation in Super Stock competitions among production cars with serious drivetrain modifications.

Dodge proclaims the SRT SS the world’s fastest and most powerful muscle car in production, but there is a catch. The Demon has 852 PS (840 hp) under the hood along with 1,044 Nm (770 lb-ft) of torque. The newcomer only pulls 818 PS (808 hp) and 959 Nm (707 lb-ft) from its 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8. This is still above the 2018 Redeye spec with its 808 PS (797 hp) and 958 Nm (707 lb-ft).

The newly proclaimed drag strip king takes advantage of a reworked eight-speed automatic transmission, limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes and Nitto NT05R 315/40 R18 tires (all standard features). It needs 3.25 seconds to hit 97 km/h (60 mph) from standstill and maxes out at 270 km/h (168 mph) because of tire limitations. The Redeye is marginally slower on its stock tires, making 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, but it can hit 327 km/h (203 mph) once the speed limiter is removed.

The Super Stock covers a quarter mile in 10.5 seconds, which puts it 0.3 s ahead of the Redeye, but 0.85 s behind the Demon.

The one undisputable advantage of the new model is that it offers much more day-to-day comfort, including even a nicely trimmed interior with some luxury options thrown in for good measure.

The production will start this fall, and Dodge has no intentions to limit the quantity just yet.
