Nio ES6 changes generation after four years in production

The Nio ES6 only reached the mass market four years ago, but the company decided to skip facelifting it and go straight for the next generation.

The new version of the electric crossover SUV runs on NT2 underpinnings and has air-ride suspension in the base spec. The wheelbase gains 15 mm (0.6 inches) and now amounts to 2,915 mm (113.9 inches).

Compared to the old version, the new ES6 sports redesigned fenders, larger second-row windows and smaller lighting all around. The front end now only has a single air intake in the lower grille, while the two upper ones are gone. From the technical perspective, the NAD self-driving system on board should now correspond to the Level 3 standard, however, the certification is pending.

The interior looks similar to that of the upmarket ES8 and EC7 models. The driver gets a 10.2-inch digital dashboard, while the head unit has a 12.8-inch display and features an animated digital assistant. A new, powerful audio system and VR goggles are listed under features.

For the time being, the Nio ES6 is only available in an all-wheel-drive configuration rated at 490 PS (483 hp / 360 kW). The company promises to expand the lineup in the future.
