Japanese car tops the ranking of French-made cars

The Toyota Yaris Cross is now officially recognized as the most produced car in France in 2024, despite boasting a Japanese origin.

Specifically, Toyota has pieced together 207,000 Yaris Cross units at its Onnaing factory over the past 12 months. The Onnaing industrial site has been operational since 1998 and churned out its 5,000,000th vehicle in November 2024.

It’s not just a coincidence, either. The French domestic automakers are lagging far behind Toyota in their own country. Renault’s Trafic and Master LCVs round off the top-3 list with roughly 129,000 units of each produced in 2024, and the Peugeot 308 sits at number 4 with 127,000 units made. This is to say that the most-produced French light passenger car isn’t even in the top-3 list of its own country.
