Rare and desirable Lamborghini Diablo GT heads to auction

Bonhams will be looking for a new owner for this 2000 Lamborghini Diablo GT coupe during its Laguna Seca event in mid-August. There’s no word on how much it will cost, but we’ve seen similar examples go for more than a million U.S. dollars lately.

Different sources claim that either 80 or 83 such GT cars were made in total. Each ended up with a V12 engine stroked out to full six liters of volume and tuned to 575 PS (567 hp / 423 kW), as well as 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque. Lamborghini let the supercar keep its five-speed manual transmission, but replaced the regular Diablo’s AWD system with a lightweight RWD setup. As a result, the GT hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and could attain 338 km/h (210 mph) in a straight line.

Every example from the limited series also featured a racing-inspired aero kit complete with a massive rear wing, a dual-chamber roof scoop, and lighting that also had to be moved from the car’s body onto its aero kit to further reduce the drag. Interior changes included new seats and steering wheel.

The Diablo GT pictured here has amassed 14,200 kilometers (8,800 miles) under its belt over the past 26 years. The listing claims it’s still in peak technical condition.
