Mazda flattens logo

The ubiquitous fad for two-dimensional logos hasn’t spared Mazda, which has now announced its first badge change since 1997.

According to Japanese media, the badge will make its full debut in the country later today, January 30, right in time for the automaker’s 105th birthday.

The flattened Mazda emblem may take some getting used to, but there’s one important thing to note before you complain. The company never specified where exactly it would be using it, saying only that “flat logos look better on phone screens”. As such, it may actually only find use in web-based and marketing materials, while the cars will continue to wear the standard 3D badge.
