Car Tuning

This Porsche 911 Safari-like build on a steel chassis costs from €100k

Kalmar Automotive has refreshed another custom car in its portfolio. The new 2025 KALMAR RS-7 is based strictly on the Porsche 911 (997) chassis.

The company emphasizes that it will only build new RS-7 examples for as long as it can still get 977-gen Porsche sports cars. And the reason? The 911 (997) was the final generation to be based on a full steel chassis. All later generations used a combination chassis welded and occasionally even glued together from steel and aluminum parts. It’s a viable design for road use, but not so much for a rally car that can break down in the middle of nowhere.

That’s why Kalmar’s latest Safari-inspired build will be restricted to the generation number 997. It comes with a active suspension, adaptive shocks and a TrackTive hydraulic lift that you can use to adjust the ground clearance from 170 to 210 mm (6.6–8.2 inches). That’s more clearance than the Cayenne has! As for the sway bars, the tuner argues that they aren’t necessary in this build. Suspension dampers keep things stable as is, and sway bars adversely affect wheel articulation, something you wouldn’t like in an off-road trip.

On the outside, every KALMAR RS-7 wears a colorful livery, a ducktail spoiler and an aluminum skid plate. It also rocks auxiliary lights, off-road wheels shod in Michelin tires and a body kit with Kevlar fibers mixed in for durability in extreme temperatures.

Customers can choose from a variety of powertrain and interior options. The base conversion starts from €99,997, but you will need to procure your own Porsche 997 for it.
