USA backtracks on strict eco standards

EPA, the U.S. Environment Protection Agency responsible for controlling the level of car-induced pollution among other things, is moving away from the strict anti-pollution goals set during ex-President Joe Biden’s term.

The set of measures informally referred to as the “EV mandate” envisioned a move away from using traditional cars with internal combustion engines. The plan had included progressively strict CO2 emission targets for every year starting from 2027. According to it, around 50% of all vehicles driven in North America would have been fully electric by the beginning of the next decade.

With Donald Trump back at the rudder, EPA has officially announced work on new, more lenient environmental regulations.
