BYD Han gets an update heading into 2025

BYD has put some further polish on one of its flagship sedans, the Han.

The modifications haven’t affected the size of the car, which is still nearly 5 meters (16.4 ft) long with 2,920 mm (114 inches) between the axles. The hybrid version of the Han now runs the fifth generation of the company’s DM tech, meaning it can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds and make do with only 3.8 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers with the battery drained (that’s 62 MPG). Charge up the battery, and you get either 125 km (77.7 miles) of all-electric range or whopping 1,350 km (839 miles) of hybrid range per tank.

Buyers of the new BYD Han DM-i can choose from five trim levels priced from 165,800 to 225,800 Yuan. This represents a 4,000-Yuan discount on all trims except the topmost one. Things look different for the all-electric Han EV, which stays at 179,800 in the base spec but gets discounted in all higher trims. Maxing out the options on the Han EV results in a fairly affordable total of 235,800 Yuan ($33,250).

Aside from the entry-level EV, all other Han variants benefit from 800-volt power architecture and new batteries that the manufacturer claims are both safer and more durable. Charging to 80% now takes just 30 minutes, and a full battery pack nets you between 506 and 701 km (314 and 435 miles), depending on the volume.

BYD has yet to post full motor specifications, but it has already revealed that the entry spec uses a single front-axle motor to drive the wheels with 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque. It’s enough to reach 100 km/h (6.2 mph) in a sluggish 7.9 seconds.

Feature-wise, we are promised a LiDAR and the company’s latest semi-autonomous driving system in “select high-end configurations”. Overall, it looks like these improvements may revitalize the sales of the Han lineup, which have been dropping recently.
