A very special, one-off BYD Denza Z9 GT co-designed with French jewelry house Chopard just found a buyer for a cool €700,000, almost 15 times its MSRP of €46,800.
Working on the EV, the French company decorated its interior with genuine gold accents while putting handfuls of amethysts into the cabin. You can find them on most buttons and controls, as well as all around the multimedia display. The winning bidder of the auction also got a matching travel bag collection and a couple of wristwatches adorned with diamonds.
Things stayed stock in the powertrain department, not that anyone would complain about that. The GT variant of the Denza Z9 is good for 1,156 PS (1,140 hp / 850 kW) straight off the assembly line.
According to the Chinese automaker, the goal was to raise the brand awareness in Europe where Denza remains a rather obscure nameplate. As you may have guessed by now, the auction was a charity, with the company promising to invest the proceeds into HIV research.
