The launch of the new Dodge Charger has been a failure in many aspects, and the company is now struggling to sell more than a couple thousand units.
Sales in the United States began in January this year, with the customers choosing from two versions. Dodge has now reported only finding buyers for 1,947 examples of the Daytona EV over the first three months of the year.
To remedy the situation, the company will be reversing on its original plan to keep the car all-electric. A new version called Sixpack is slated to arrive in the summer, packing a 3.0-liter Hurricane TT.
As for the battery-powered Charger Daytona lineup, it will lose the entry-level R/T spec rated at 503 PS (496 hp / 370 kW) for the next model year. Dodge still hopes to keep the range-topping Daytona Scat Pack with 670 PS (661 hp / 493 kW) alive for a while longer.
