4th-gen Ford Focus gets a fuel-efficient new engine in Europe

Customers in Europe can now opt for a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbo mill and an electric motor when buying the latest Ford Focus Mk4.

The EcoBoost Hybrid series engine comes in two versions: 125 hp (93 kW) and 155 hp (116 kW). The system is advertised as particularly economical because it deactivates one of the cylinders when extra power is not required and can even shut the engine down completely when cruising at a constant speed. In the latter case, the electric motor takes over the drivetrain until more power becomes necessary.

Buyers can choose between six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic for the transmission. The car comes equipped with a 12.3-inch digital dashboard that displays the amount of fuel saved thanks to the starter-generator. Satellite navigation will warn the driver about any potential road hazards ahead.
